Museum of license plates, traffic and registration history

The International Museum for License Plates, Traffic and Registration History , or License Plate Museum for short , is located in Großolbersdorf in the Ore Mountains .

Objects and documents on the history of vehicle license plates , traffic signs , automobile registration and the development of driving schools and driver training are exhibited .

Concept and framework

The museum is located about 20 kilometers south of Chemnitz in an old factory building. The construction of the museum began in June 2000, and the opening took place on April 7, 2001.

The employment office supports the project with generous funding. The museum is operated by a registered association that has been classified as non-profit by the tax office. The museum and association are financed through membership fees, entrance fees and donations, whereby primarily no self-economic purposes are pursued. The association and museum work closely with the community of Großolbersdorf as well as regional and national associations and museums.
