Music history in pictures

Music history in pictures is a music history and music ethnology series founded by Heinrich Besseler and Max Schneider , which was most recently published by the musicologist Werner Bachmann. The individual volumes have been published by the Deutsches Verlag für Musik in Leipzig since 1961 . The series was discontinued after the end of the GDR . The series of publications was under the patronage of the UNESCO Commission of the German Democratic Republic . The volume on East Asia ( China , Korea and Japan ), for example, was no longer published. Further editions of some volumes appeared. The entire series is divided into four sub-series: 1. Ethnic music , 2. Ancient music , 3. Medieval and Renaissance music , 4. Modern music . The volumes appeared in separate deliveries. Numerous renowned scholars have contributed to the series.
