Günter Fleischhauer

Günter Fleischhauer (born   July 8, 1928 in Magdeburg ; † February 12, 2002 ) was a German musicologist .

Life

Fleischhauer attended the Berthold Otto School in Magdeburg. From 1947 to 1952 he studied classical philology with Erich Reitzenstein , music education with Fritz Reuter and musicology with Max Schneider at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . In 1952 he became a research assistant at the local institute for music education. From 1955 to 1958 he held a teaching position for figured bass and score playing . In 1960 he was awarded the dissertation The Musicians' Cooperatives in Hellenistic-Roman Antiquity. Contributions to the musical life of the Romans to the Dr. phil. PhD. In 1962 he became a lecturer in music history at the Institute for Musicology. After the university reform, he was demoted to lecturer in 1969 . In 1979 he presented the dissertation B Methodological Problems of Music Historiography, presented using two selected examples, the musical cultures of the Etruscans and the Romans and Telemann research . In 1980 he received a lectureship. After his rehabilitation in 1990 he became associate professor and in 1992 full professor of musicology. In 1994/94 he headed the Institute for Musicology. He carried out research on ancient and baroque music , in particular on Georg Philipp Telemann and Georg Friedrich Handel .

In 1961 he initiated the Telemann Sunday Music , in 1962 the Magdeburg Telemann Festival and in 1974 the scientific workshops on performance practice and interpretation of the music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Century in the Michaelstein Monastery in Blankenburg (Harz). In 1962 he became a board member of the Magdeburg working group "Georg Philipp Telemann" in the Kulturbund of the GDR and head of the musicology section in the Halle-Magdeburg district association in the GDR's Association of Composers and Musicologists . Fleischauer was an editorial member of the Magdeburg Telemann Studies , the Telemann Conference Reports , the Michaelstein Conference Reports and the Michaelstein Research Papers . From 1972 to 1998 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Michaelstein Institute for Performance Practice. From 1991 he was a board member of the international Georg Friedrich Händel Society .

Fleischhauer's books and music are kept in the Center for Telemann Care and Research in Magdeburg.
