Frankfurt Music Fair

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frankfurt Music Fair is an international trade fair for musical instruments, accessories, music production and marketing. As one of the world's leading trade fairs, it is only open to specialist audiences on three days and to all those interested in music on one day. It last took place from April 2 to 5, 2019 in Frankfurt am Main together with the sister fair Prolight + Sound . From 2021 they are to take place separately in parallel to the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Content and target audience

Musikmesse covers the entire product range of the musical instrument industry: from acoustic, classical instruments such as brass and woodwind instruments, percussion and keyboard instruments, through electric guitars and basses, to computer-aided music productions and the most modern DJ equipment. Innovations and products of all genres are shown - from classical to jazz, rock and pop.

The Musikmesse also offers a varied supporting program: musicians and music teachers can test instruments, take part in workshops and product demonstrations by well-known artists, or attend the many concerts on the exhibition grounds. Numerous award ceremonies and days of action, such as Germany's largest festival for young schoolchildren “SchoolJam” or the “Music4Kids” activity that has been integrated since 2000, round off the content of the program. Another highlight of the Musikmesse is the special exhibition "International Vintage Show", a worldwide unique exhibition with vintage guitars and basses as well as drums and harmonicas, which took place for the first time in 2018. The seminars, workshops and events enrich the product range of the Musikmesse and enable regional, national or international networking.

history

The first music fair took place in 1980 in Frankfurt am Main in just one exhibition hall (Hall 8.0). Since then it has been held on four days in spring, from 1995 parallel to the international trade fair for the entertainment industry Prolight + Sound. As sister fairs, they address two closely related industries.

Since 2016, Musikmesse has been expanding its offerings for private visitors: This year, the fair will be accompanied by the Musikmesse Festival for the first time. The event concept offers a varied program with concerts, live sessions, surprise activities and parties in downtown Frankfurt. The Musikmesse Plaza will be launched in 2019. The pop-up experience market offers a wide range of entertainment. In addition, instruments, sound carriers and other lifestyle products can be tested, exchanged or bought.

In 2020 Musikmesse will celebrate an anniversary together with Prolight + Sound. Musikmesse is 40 years old, Prolight + Sound 25 years old. For the first time it should be possible to buy and sell guitars.

In 2020 the Musikmesse had to be canceled due to the spread of the corona virus.
