German musical instrument award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Musical Instrument Prize is awarded annually during the Musikmesse in Frankfurt am Main .

The award was founded in 1990 by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) and was presented for the first time in 1991. The German Musical Instrument Prize is awarded to particularly good products from industrial and manual production. It is intended to underline the importance of German musical instrument making for the musical instrument industry and the economy in general.

The award is presented as a certificate and medal.

Selection process

The instruments submitted go through a three-stage selection process at the Institute for Musical Instrument Making (IfM) in Zwota (Saxony):

  • Measurement of acoustic properties
  • Playing and evaluation of the instruments by five musicians
  • Assessment of the craftsmanship by an expert

The results of the assessment process are the basis for the vote of the judges' committee and the decision of the board of trustees. The board of trustees includes the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy , the German Music Council , Messe Frankfurt GmbH, the Federal Association of German Musical Instrument Manufacturers and the Federal Guild Association for the Musical Instrument Craft . In addition, one representative each of the project executor and the Musikinstrumenten-Museum, Berlin , take part in the meetings of the Board of Trustees .

The competition is advertised in two changing categories every year. The German Musical Instrument Award is an honorary award. The manufacturers of the award-winning instruments will be presented with a certificate at a ceremony and the instruments will be presented in a special way at the Musikmesse.
