The company Gebr. Alexander. Rhine. Musikinstrumentenfabrik GmbH , based in Mainz , claims to be Germany's oldest musical instrument manufacturer.
history
The manufacturer of brass instruments was founded in 1782 by Franz Ambros Alexander, who came from a French Huguenot family and came to Mainz from Miltenberg in Lower Franconia . There he was accepted into the craft guild and began to manufacture musical instruments, especially orchestral instruments.
Today the company is primarily known for its French horns , which enjoy an outstanding reputation among horn players around the world. The Model 103 in particular is considered the standard instrument for German symphony and opera orchestras. However, the product range also includes trumpets , flugelhorns , Wagner tubas , tenor horns , baritones and tubas .
225th anniversary
On the occasion of the company's 225th anniversary, the music publisher Schott International presented an anniversary anthem, composed by Enjott Schneider as a gift. Michael Höltzel took over the musical direction of the world premiere on September 1st, 2007 during the Weinmarkt in Stadtpark Mainz in front of the Favorite Parkhotel with 225 wind instruments .
The 225 horn players between the ages of 6 and 85 who responded to a global appeal, including famous horn players such as Hermann Baumann , Christian Lampert , Wolfgang Gaag and Peter Arnold , had only a few days to rehearse the demanding twelve-part anthem. In the meantime, the city of Mainz has also expressed interest in adopting the anthem as the Mainz city fanfare .
Other business areas
The company also owns the Musik Alexander music store at Bahnhofsstrasse 9 in Mainz and the Musik Alexander piano store in the Peter Cornelius Conservatory .
