Adrian von Arburg (born December 29, 1974 in Wolhusen , Switzerland ) is a Swiss historian who lives in the Czech Republic . He has had the real surname Portmann since 2011 . He specializes in the history of the expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia and in the repopulation of the former Sudeten German areas .

Studies and professional activity

Adrian von Arburg studied at the Universities of Bern and Vienna (Mag. Phil. 2001) and at the Charles University in Prague (Ph.D. 2004). He worked with Tomáš Staněk on the edition Vysídlení Němců a proměny českého pohraničí 1945–1951 . Since 2008 he has been working at Masaryk University in Brno ( Czech Republic ). Since May 15, 2013 he has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes (ÚSTR ). At the first meeting of this body on June 12, 2013, he was elected its chairman.

Since 2012 he has been chairman of the Czech citizens' association Conditio humana , which deals with the research and popularization of contemporary history in Central Europe in the form of books and public events.
