German music edition award

The German Music Edition Award BEST EDITION is a prize awarded annually by the German Music Publishers Association in Bonn since 2004 to music publishers , with which sheet music editions and music books of outstanding quality are awarded. This is intended to acknowledge the performance of those involved in production, but above all to address the public's awareness of quality.

The jury consists of:

  • Marcus R. Bosch , General Music Director City of Aachen
  • Wolfram Steinbeck , Professor of Historical Musicology, University of Cologne
  • Michael Struck-Schloen, musicologist and critic, Windeck
  • Iris Utikal, Chair for Typography and Layout, Cologne International School of Design
  • Martin Wilkening, music critic, Berlin
  • Daniela Zimmer, music dealer, Stuttgart

Employees of the publishing house are not permitted to be members of the jury, even if the publishing house concerned does not take part in the competition. All submitted works will be judged according to the following criteria:

  • Overall graphic and editorial impression, whereby an editorial requirement must also be met
  • special publishing service or idea
  • Correctness and graphic quality of the score ( engraving , type, electronic notation, calligraphy )
  • Cover design, front cover, page layout
  • Print, paper, cover
