Michael Rot (born April 19, 1955 in Vienna ) is an Austrian conductor , composer , editor and university lecturer.

Life

Michael Rot studied piano, trumpet, conducting and composition in his native Vienna, and also singing in his adopted home, Italy. The focus of his artistic activity was and is the opera - between 1976 and 1990 primarily as a conductor with performances at home and abroad, also as a vocal accompanist for Mara Zampieri , Heinz Zednik , Eberhard Waechter and Walter Berry , as a conductor and study director in collaboration with Agnes Baltsa , Alfredo Kraus , Giuseppe Taddei , Jose Bros , Piero Cappuccilli , Gianfranco Cecchele and many others. From 1982 the focus of his work shifted more and more to composing. Rot was particularly successful with the operas “Die Propheten” and “Faust III” as well as the violin concerto op. 40. Michael Rot has been teaching at the Institute for Music Theater of today's University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 1976 , since 1987 as professor for musical interpretation of opera.

Publications as an author

In addition to several libretti for operas (including “Faust III”) and musical comedies (including “On the way”, “Yooko in Vienna”), Michael Rot's first fiction work, “Japan ist ein Insel” (paperback and ebook).

Activities as arranger and editor

Michael Rot wrote over 400 arrangements for the Wiener Ring Ensemble , the Vienna State Opera , the Theater an der Wien , the Theater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft and DECCA Classics .
