The Musikverein Viktoria 08 Ober-Roden e. V. is a music association with several wind orchestras in Rödermark in Hesse .

history

The association was founded in 1908 under the name "Katholischer Arbeiter-Musikverein 08". In 1912, a contract with the Ober-Roden volunteer fire brigade gave the association a new name; it was now called "Catholic Workers and Voluntary Fire Brigade Musikverein, Oberroden 1912". The active received fire brigade uniforms that were worn to festive events. The current name "Musikverein Viktoria" and a break from the volunteer fire brigade was decided at the annual general meeting of the association in 1921.

After the turmoil of the Second World War , the association experienced a strong increase in members and musicians and flourished under its conductor Adam Hornung, who was awarded the Medal of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his decades of outstanding musical achievements in the cultural field in 1966 . Adam Hornung is one of the personalities who have shaped the cultural life of an entire region for decades. As a conductor and music teacher, he formed the orchestra of the Viktoria 08 Ober-Roden music association into one of the leading orchestras in the Rhine-Main area. His compositions and arrangements expanded the repertoire of the orchestra, and the "School for Wind Orchestra" published by Hornung and Otto Heinl at Musikverlag Halter became a standard work for wind orchestras in German-speaking countries.

In 1982 the conductor Dieter Weis took over the direction of the wind orchestra, which he still directs today. The development of intensive musical youth work and the founding of several youth orchestras to promote young musicians began. The large wind orchestra developed into a modern symphonic wind orchestra and has since attracted attention several times with excellent results in national competitions.

In 2006 the association founded another orchestra under the name "Endlisch Musigg", whose target group consists of adult beginners and those returning to brass music. With this orchestra, the association gained nationwide fame in 2007 by winning the first federal award “Music Education 50+” from the German Music Council and the special award “Making music 50+ in a lay ensemble”, which the association received in 2008 in Berlin from Federal Minister Ursula von der Leyen was presented. Jury member Hans Bäßler, Vice President of the German Music Council, explained in his laudation on the award of the first prize in the category “Music Education 50+”: “With this initiative, the German Music Council's wildest dreams will come true. Truly a lighthouse project. "

Today the Musikverein Viktoria 08 Ober-Roden consists of the Great Wind Orchestra, the Endlisch Musigg Orchestra, a youth orchestra, other training orchestras in the youth field, several instrumental ensembles and numerous supporting members. The musical highlight is the annual Christmas concert in the Rödermark culture hall , where symphonic brass music is performed.
