Carlo Compans de Brichanteau

Marquis Carlo Compans de Brichanteau de Challant, Conte di Ala (born April 30, 1845 in Chambéry , Savoy , † November 2, 1925 in Turin ) was an Italian politician and sports politician , founding president of CONI from 1914 to 1920.

Life

He received military training, became a lieutenant in the cavalry , but was a successful candidate as a member of the House of Representatives ( Camera dei deputati ) of the Kingdom of Italy (for the Marquis ) as early as 1876 and remained a member until 1919 (from the 13th to the 20th legislative period) Member of the Turin constituency. He was State Secretary for Post and Telegraphy (1889–1891) and for Agriculture (1896–1897). From 1889 onwards he was the President of the United Insurance Companies of Italy ( Assicuratrice Italiana ). and President of the Central Committee for Preparing the Mont Blanc Tunnel , which, however, was no longer completed during his lifetime. In 1908 and 1912 he was President of the Italian Committee for Participation in the Olympic Games and also head of the delegation of the Italian Olympic team. In this capacity he applied for Italy to host the Olympic Games. In 1910 he became the president of the Turin Stadium Company, which ensured the financing and maintenance of the largest stadium in Italy. The stadium (for 40,000 spectators) was the jewel of the Turin World Exhibition in 1911 . He was then founding president of the Italian Olympic Committee ( CONI ), 1914-1920. In the times of the new democracy, however, the CONI separated from him because he was a symbol of the old kingdom.
