history
Around 1910 the Mittelland Canal reached Bramsche and at the same time construction of the branch to the branch canal Osnabrück began . The first land, mainly for the handling of building materials, agricultural products and coal, was established in Bramsche in 1912. However, the canal was initially only navigable to the west. A noticeable increase in handling volumes was achieved from 1916 onwards, when the canals to Hanover in the east and Osnabrück in the south were pierced , and this was further increased in the following years despite the First World War and the global economic crisis .
The Achmer Lands were added in 1936 when the Achmer Airfield was built. During the Second World War, this was of exclusively military importance.
In the 1960s, the land in Engter was built in the course of upgrading and expanding the canal.
Furthermore, the water police and the Minden Waterways and Shipping Office in Bramsche each maintain their own land and a small port.
Commerce and infrastructure
Today the ports of Bramsche consist of several industrial areas that complement the port facilities with important infrastructure. The transshipment facilities are adapted to the requirements at the respective locations. Nowadays, mainly large quantities of scrap are shipped for recycling at Lände Achmer . At the transshipment point in Eilers, bulk goods such as feed and fertilizers predominate , for which there are storage facilities of up to 16,000 t. The annual turnover there reaches 240,000 tons. At the Lände in Engter, they have specialized in building materials, but agricultural products such as grain can also be handled and stored.
There are no separate jetties in Bramsche for leisure and passenger shipping. Excursions and tours to Bramsche can be made from Osnabrück from April to October.
traffic
Local roads open up the ports to the federal highway 1 , the federal highway 68 and the federal highway 218 . In public transport , all parts of the port are supplied within a reasonable distance.
The Achmer area is directly adjacent to the Oldenburg – Osnabrück railway line , but has not yet been equipped with its own pull-out track.
