The port of Vahldorf is an inland port in the area of the municipality of Niedere Börde in the district of Börde , Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The port is located immediately southwest of Vahldorf on the federal waterway Mittellandkanal (MLK) at kilometer 307.4 south at an altitude of 56 m above sea level. NN . 600 m west of the port there is a turning bay for push convoys up to 150 m in length, which also offers a public slipway for small vehicles .
history
In the late 1930s, the section of the Mittelland Canal from Wolfsburg towards Magdeburg was built, but at Vahldorf there was initially no separate loading point.
It was not until after the fall of the Wall in 1994 that the port was built with high-performance handling, storage and silo facilities. The plants have been operated by Magdeburger Getreide GmbH since 1997 . After further expansion and upgrading work, which also made it possible to navigate the canal with large motorized cargo ships and push convoys up to 185 m in length, the port facilities were expanded again in 2001 and 2007.
Commerce and infrastructure
Today at the port of Vahldorf there are two crane bridges with 11 t lifting capacity each, conveyor belts , industrial trucks , handling equipment for bulk goods for loading trucks onto ships, a vehicle scale, as well as a dry handling area and a drying system.
Thanks to two huge indoor warehouses with 23,500 m² of storage space, two dozen silos and 7,500 m² of outdoor storage space, even several months of operational breaks on the canal can be cushioned.
Two motorized goods ships can be handled there at the same time at the 260 m pierced pier, and another up to 70 m in length can be idle.
There is no rail connection for freight traffic there. There is a public transport connection about 250 m away . Road traffic is accessible via local roads leading to federal road 71 .
