history

Around 1914 the Mittelland Canal reached Getmold as construction progressed eastwards, but initially there was no port of its own there. This was built in the 1930s as an armaments project of the Second World War. The oil port was supposed to be the air tank farm 2 / VI. in Preussisch Oldendorf and was connected to this with a pipeline . It remained undestroyed during the war and was not put into operation until after 1945 when the facilities were occupied by the British Army. The tank farm was blown up in the early 1950s.
The port facility was preserved and, as the canal was upgraded and expanded in the 1960s, it was used for civilian purposes. Some commercial enterprises settled there, especially for the handling of forest and agricultural products, building materials and fuels. 1973 Getmold was incorporated into Preußisch Oldendorf. The four distinctive silos were built in 2005 and 2006.

In 2008 the Port of Getmold merged with five other Westphalian ports to form the HafenBand .

Commerce and infrastructure

Today, the Port of Getmold includes, in addition to the port facilities, a 60  hectare industrial area bordering on the south, which complements the port facility with important infrastructure. The port is mainly set up for the handling of building materials, forest and agricultural products and is operated by Getmolder Hafenumschlag GmbH, Raiffeisen Lübbecker Land and a wholesaler for exotic woods. There is a 25 m high gantry crane for bulk goods , a mobile crane, a vehicle scale and conveyor systems for bulk goods . There are storage facilities on 10,000 m² of open-air storage space, in 900 m² of heated indoor storage and in four silos with a capacity of 1,800 tons each.

Up to 10 ships can be moored at the quays and three ships can be processed at the same time.

The water sports club Preußisch Oldendorfs operates a marina in the immediate vicinity. Small vehicles will find suitable jetties and their own supply and disposal facilities there.

Occasionally, excursion boats and passenger ships moor in the Getmold harbor .

traffic

Local roads and the L 557 connect the port to the federal highway 65 , which runs 4 km to the south . There is no rail connection. Access to public transport is available around 500 m away.
