The Bohmte transshipment point is the inland port of the municipality of Bohmte in the district of Osnabrück , Lower Saxony . It is 240 kilometers by road from Hamburg.

geography

The transshipment point in Bohmte-Leckermühle is four kilometers west of the town center at a height of 50.3  m above sea level. NHN at kilometer 54.4 north on the federal waterway Mittellandkanal . Federal highway 51 , which is called Osnabrücker Straße there,
runs to the west .

history

The Mittelland Canal has been running southwest of the municipality of Bohmte since 1912; initially there was no port of its own there. This was built as the Bohmte, J. Zerhusen transshipment point in the late 1950s and operated by J. Zerhusen GmbH until 2015 .
In February 2016, Hafen Wittlager Land GmbH (HWL), whose shareholders are the district of Osnabrück and the municipalities of Bohmte, Bad Essen and Ostercappeln , did not take over the property and facilities, it will continue to operate in Lohne (Oldenburg) .

Commerce and infrastructure

Today there is an approximately 2  hectare industrial area with two berths. There are outdoor and indoor storage areas, a silo and a pounded quay with a length of 260 m. Bulk goods are handled .

Local politicians are planning a container port and hope to receive millions in subsidies for it. The plan was and is criticized because under low bridges over the West German canal network only single-layer ships loaded with sea containers can travel; they are too low for transport with two container layers on top of each other ( double-decker transport ). The port can therefore only be approached sensibly from the direction of Hamburg.

The recreational boating had the port facilities both as water and as dry berths used; Currently (2017) there is no longer any operation there.

traffic

The port is located directly on the federal highway 51 , which connects to the southwest of the federal highway 65 and leads to the federal highway 33 about 10 km away . Federal motorway 1 can be reached after 18 km to the west via federal highway 218 .
