history
Between 1909 and 1913 the Mittelland Canal was built between Wunstorf and Kolenfeld and went into operation there in 1916. The former Wunstorf canal construction authority, founded in 1907, was incorporated into Linden in 1918 . Apart from the small loading point in Idensen (today: Lände Wilhelmsdorf (Haste)), there was probably no separate mooring or transhipment point at first, or it has been forgotten. The local chronicles of Wunstorf and Kolenfeld do not mention this. The aviation industry there was more likely to be big, as evidenced by the (initially secret) establishment of the nearby Wunstorf Air Base in the early 1930s.
In 1974 Kolenfeld was incorporated into Wunstorf and the shipping areas quietly emerged in the 1980s. The earliest mention is in 1989 with a construction site photo of today's port facility. The Raiffeisen Group settled there and became the operator of the port. A recycling company was added later. At the beginning of 2016, waste paper stored there caught fire and the port briefly hit the headlines.
Commerce and infrastructure
Today there is an almost ten hectare industrial area at the port of Wunstorf , which complements the port facility with important infrastructure. The port is mainly set up for the handling of forest and agricultural products, fertilizers and iron / steel. To a small extent, solid fuels are also handled in the port, which is operated by Agravis Niedersachsen Süd GmbH.
There are 16 t portal and mobile cranes , conveyor belts and handling equipment for bulk goods such as grain. In the port area there are hall and outdoor storage areas as well as a silo. A large motor cargo ship with a draft of up to 4 m can be moored and handled at the quay wall and another on the sloping bank to the east of it. There is a turning bay for ships up to 100 m in length and another ship can be idle on the opposite southern quay wall. The settlement of further handling operations is planned, especially for container handling to relieve the ports of Hanover. The creation of a rail connection is also being considered.
The family-run Wunstorfs marina in the Idensen district is suitable for recreational boating . It began operations in 1981 after a construction period of around two years and was officially opened in 1985. It has its own 12 t crane and 120 berths; There are also 30 dry berths. Supply and disposal options , a seasonally managed gastronomy treasure island and sanitary facilities are available.
traffic
Local roads connect the port via the L 392 state road to the federal motorway 2 , which runs two kilometers to the south . There is currently no public transport or rail link. The passenger ship not served Wunstorf date regularly.
