The village of Idensen is a district of the city of Wunstorf in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony . The village is located southwest of the city center on the Mittelland Canal .
history
In a document issued by Bishop Sigward von Minden between 1120 and 1129, Idensen is mentioned as "Ydanhusen".
Tombs of the von Idensen family in the Minorite Monastery in Hanover have not been preserved.
In 1546 32 job owners were shown in the “Landsteuer- und Schatzregister”, from which about 300 residents in Idensen at that time can be derived.
On March 1, 1974, the communities of Idensen and Idensermoor-Niengraben were incorporated into the city of Wunstorf and have been a locality ever since. Until then, Idensermoor-Niengraben had belonged to the Grafschaft Schaumburg district. The district and municipality border ran on today's street "Branddrift". Because of this earlier division, Idensen still has two different area codes in the telephone network.

Culture and sights
Buildings
- The Sigward Church is one of the oldest buildings in the Hanover region and is famous for its Romanesque wall and ceiling paintings. The own church and grave church, built by Minden Bishop Sigward between 1129 and 1134, was consecrated to Saint Ursula and the 11,000 virgins. It is called Sigwardskirche in memory of its owner and user and is generally known by this name. The Freundeskreis Sigwardskirche eV has set itself the task of "making an active contribution to the preservation of the excellent monument of medieval architecture".
- Opposite the old church, the new, larger church in neo-Gothic style was built in 1887/1888 according to plans by the Hanoverian architect and university professor Conrad Wilhelm Hase . This had been able to avert the already decided demolition of the Sigwardskirche.
- At the end of the 1980s, a marina for recreational shipping was built on the Mittelland Canal .
