Luthe is a village in the city of Wunstorf in Lower Saxony . Since the territorial reform of 1974, the formerly independent community has been part of the city and is the second largest district after Wunstorf itself.

history

The term Luthe is derived from the old German word "Luthi". That means something like "place / place on clear water". This name can probably be traced back to the first Luther settlement on Luther Lake. The first documentary mention was made in 1228 in a document from the Wunstorf Abbey. After the reign of the Counts of Wunstorf, the Dukes of Braunschweig-Lüneburg took over in 1447 and assigned it to the office of Blumenau. Until 1859 the place belonged to the office of Blumenau.

Since the end of the 19th century, the place Luthe experienced a serious structural change through the settlement of some important industrial companies (including Portland cement and fulgurite ). This also resulted in a considerable population growth. A release camp for German prisoners of war was set up in Luther Masch in 1945. In 1959/60, memorial plaques for those who fell in World War II were added to the existing memorial for those who died in the First World War at the Protestant church. On March 1, 1974, Luthe was incorporated into the city of Wunstorf.

coat of arms

The design of the municipal coat of arms of Luthe comes from the heraldist and coat of arms painter Gustav Völker , who designed all coats of arms in the Hanover region. The approval of the coat of arms was given by the district president in Hanover on October 25, 1960.

Coat of arms of Luthe
Blazon : " Divided by a wavy line , in theupper field, three times divided by blue and red , a growing , gold - armed , blue -tipped , silver lion , below in silver on three green sea leaves a silver water lily ."
Reasons for the coat of arms: The rising lion on the blue and red striped field of the upper half of the coat of arms indicates the earlier rule of the Wunstorf counts in this area. The blooming water lily on the lower half is a reference to the Luther Lake, on the banks of which the first villagers settled. The water lilies have stayed here to this day and have been under nature protection for several years.

Buildings

  • The center of Luthe's old district is the Protestant church. The church, built between 1819 and 1820, had a smaller previous church. The church tower from 1490/95 has been preserved to this day. Inside there is a christening from 1639. The organ was built by Ph. Furtwängler from Elze in 1849.
  • The rectory right next to the church was first built in 1639, burned down in 1783 and was rebuilt in the same year. Since the renovation in 1983, the house has been used as a community hall and sexton's apartment.
  • The Roman Catholic Holy Cross Church was built in 1971 as a simple hall building with a free-standing bell tower, it was profaned in 2010 and finally demolished in 2012 without replacement.
