The village of Mesmerode is a district of the city of Wunstorf in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony .
geography
The place is west of the city center in the immediate vicinity of the district Bokeloh . To the north-east lies the overburden dump of the Sigmundshall potash mine until just before Mesmerode and characterizes the townscape as the so-called “ Kalimandjaro ”.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1055 and, as a clearing settlement in the Merstemgau (now Schaumburg-Lippe ), was called "Merstemerothe", which over the years was ground down to Mesmerode. In 2005 the place celebrated the 950th anniversary of its existence.
With the discovery of potash salts, industrialization began in Mesmerode in the 19th century. The potash plant was built between 1898 and 1905, and it still shapes the place and the region to this day. In 1905 the railway connection to Wunstorf took place via the Steinhuder Meer Railway , which was shut down in 1970.
On March 1, 1974, Mesmerode was incorporated into the city of Wunstorf.
politics

coat of arms
The draft emblem of Mesmerode comes from the in Isernhagen born and later in Hannover living heraldry and crest painter peoples Gustav , who has the coat of arms of Großburgwedel , Melle village , Wunstorf has designed and many other towns. The approval of the coat of arms was given on November 12, 1955 by the Lower Saxony Minister of the Interior.
Blazon : "In red a silver nettle leaf , inside a rooted oak tree , the trunk of which is covered by a golden shield with two crossed mountain hammers ." | |
Establishment of the coat of arms: In 1647 Mesmerode with Lauenau , Idensen and Bokeloh was ceded to Hanover and the Duchy of Calenberg . Therefore the coat of arms shows a silver nettle leaf on red. The oak stump symbolizes the clearing settlement, which was carried out for the purpose of gaining arable land. The rebounding stump indicates that there is still forest ownership and that forestry is still being carried out. Potash mining , which has been practiced here since the turn of the century, was reflected in the symbols “ mallets and iron ”. |
