The Musselshell River is a tributary of the Missouri River in Montana in the United States .
geography
The river was first explored in 1804 during the Lewis and Clark Expedition . It rises in the Crazy Mountains area in central Montana and flows into Fort Peck Lake after about 470 kilometers .
In popular media
Musselshell is mentioned in the 1972 film Jeremiah Johnson starring Robert Redford .
