The Mussorgsky Peaks are two 500 m high mountains in the southwest of Alexander I Island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . They tower 500 m northwest of Mount Grieg on the Derocher Peninsula .
A number of mountains in the area appear for the first time on maps that were created during the US Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition . Derek Searle (1928–2003) from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey mapped the Mussorgsky Peaks , which were included in this, using aerial photographs that were also taken during this research trip. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it on March 2, 1961 after the Russian composer Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky (1839-1881).
