Mustafa Erkan (born December 20, 1984 in Neustadt am Rübenberge ) is a German - Turkish politician. From 2013 to 2017 he sat for the SPD in the Lower Saxony state parliament , in 2018 he was a candidate for the AKP in the election of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey .

Life and work

Mustafa Erkan attended the Leine School in Neustadt until 2002 and graduated from secondary school . He then switched to the technical college of the vocational schools in Neustadt with a focus on economics for two years. In the period from 2002 to 2006, Erkan was the city student representative for Neustadt. In 2004 he began training as an industrial mechanic at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Hanover. After completing this training in 2008, Erkan worked there as a machine operator and was also a youth and trainee representative from 2006 to 2010. Since 2010, Erkan has been employed by IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie in Hanover, where he trained as a union secretary. During the period of his mandate in the Lower Saxony state parliament, he was on leave from this task.

After leaving the state parliament in 2017, he became an advisor to the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu .

politics

Erkan joined the SPD in 2004. Since 2006, he has held the position of deputy chairman of the local club for the Neustadt am Rübenberge local club. From 2007, Erkan was also the chairman of the Neustadt / Kernstadt department. In 2008, Erkan was elected deputy chairman of the working group for employee issues in the SPD sub-district of Hanover. From 2009 he was a member of the executive committee of the SPD sub-district.

From 2011 to 2017 Mustafa Erkan was a member of the city council of Neustadt am Rübenberge; he was the city's deputy mayor.

In the state elections in Lower Saxony in 2013 , Mustafa Erkan ran as a direct candidate for the SPD in the Neustadt / Wunstorf constituency and in 23rd place on the SPD state list. While he was defeated by the CDU candidate Sebastian Lechner in the constituency , he moved into the state parliament via the state list. There he was a member of the Committee on Federal and European Affairs, Media and Regional Development and the Petitions Committee. In particular, he took care of trade relations with Turkey.

In the run-up to the state election in Lower Saxony in 2017 , Wiebke Osigus won a battle vote for the constituency candidate against Mustafa Erkan. Erkan therefore did not move into the state parliament again. In 2018 he left the SPD.

In the 2018 parliamentary elections in Turkey, he ran unsuccessfully for the Turkish AKP, the party of President Erdogan, for a seat in the National Assembly in Antalya.

Private

Erkan is a member of the AKP , the Arbeiterwohlfahrt , IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie , IG Metall and the sports and gymnastics club Eilvese . Furthermore, Erkan is a football referee. He mentions reading and jogging as hobbies.

Mustafa Erkan got engaged in 2015, but the engagement was broken off.
