The Musterplatz ( Italian: Piazza della Mostra ) is a square in the middle of the old town area of the South Tyrolean capital Bozen . It owes its name to its early modern function as a place of military muster (see sample place ). The square is framed by the classicist Palais Pock with the Gasthof Zur Kaiserkrone , which replaced the Bozen city seat of the Lords of Liechtenstein , which was demolished in the 18th century . It housed the oldest city theater in Bolzano, before the new theater in the station park, which was destroyed in the Second World War, was built in 1913.

Historically, the Musterplatz is first mentioned in a document around 1450: At that time it functioned as a horse market , as evidenced by a court order that no one in the city area should show horses as "on the right model town" . A little later, around 1470/80, the current name is expressly attested as "auff der Muster in der stat Potzen" and "die gmain Muster" .

The Musterplatz is located on the Mustergasse lined with modern city palaces; The Palais Trapp, Campofranco and Menz stand out among the buildings .
