The Musuan volcano (also Calayo ) is a lava dome and tuff cone on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao, four kilometers south of the city of Valencia City and 81 km southeast of Cagayan de Oro . The Musuan is only 646 m high, but has a base diameter of 3 km. The volcano is one of the 22 active volcanoes in the Philippines.
outbreaks
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reports two outbreaks of Musuan in 1866 and 1867, the Smithsonian Institution's Global Volcanism Program recorded only one possibly phreatic outbreak that "burned everything all around". The eruption likely occurred four years before a visit by a Jesuit priest in 1891, who reported that he was unable to further study the volcano due to strong Solfatari activity. In 1976 there was a strong swarm of earthquakes near the Musuan .
