Valencia

Valencia City is the agricultural and commercial center of Bukidnon and is therefore known as the City of Golden Harvest .

Origin of name

The Barrio Panlibatuhan, whose name is derived from the phrase pangyohan ho kayu ha malibato from the Binukid language and describes the delivery of Malibato wood . history

The area of today's city of Valencia City consisted of 13 barrios of the then administrative municipality Malaybalay City . The earliest inhabitants of this region are indigenous Bukidnons who settled along the banks of the Pulangui River and were led by a man named Datu Sebastian Manangkila.

When the southern part of Malaybalay City became an independent administrative municipality, the residents agreed to use the name Valencia for their locality. The place has had this name ever since.

The rich mineral resources of the territory attracted numerous Christian settlers from the Visayas and Luzon at the beginning of the 20th century . Immigration started in the mid-1930s. During the Second World War , the wave of immigrants was interrupted, rose again sharply between 1960 and 1975, so that the population of the place increased by 4.46 times from 13,898 to 64,541.

Mainly responsible for the appointment of Valencia to a municipality was Mr. Teodoro N. Pepito, the first mayor who petitioned for the change of the place. With effect from Executive Order No. 360, signed by President Carlos P. Garcia , Valencia was granted the status of an administrative municipality on January 16, 1961.

The efforts of Mayor Berthobal R. Ancheta and Congressman Reginaldo N. Tilanduca resulted in President Joseph Estrada designating the municipality as a city of Bukidnon Province on Republic Act No. 8985 on December 5, 2000 .

climate

Like most places in central Mindanao, Valencia City belongs to climate type III, without a pronounced rainy season. Located 373 m above sea level, the climatic conditions in the urban area are nevertheless rather humid throughout the year, interrupted by short and weak periods of drought in the months of December to April. The exception is January, which is often rainy.

The months June to December, on the other hand, are characterized by more frequent rains. The average rainfall is 190.6 mm per month.

The city is located outside of the typhoon belt that grazes the Philippines to the north.
