Libona is a metropolitan parish in Bukidnon Province on Mindanao Island in the Philippines . It has 43,969 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 14 Barangays and 32 Sitios . It belongs to the first income bracket of the communities in the Philippines and is described as partially urbanized . Libona was once part of the Maluko district, it was split up on April 4, 1917 into the municipalities of Libona and Manalo Fortich.
It is located approximately 92 km northwest of Malaybalay City . Their neighboring communities are Cagayan de Oro in the north, Manolo Fortich in the east and Baungon in the west. The topography of the municipality is described as mountainous with large canyon-like valleys .
A small hydropower plant was built on the Bubonawan River, which is used for energy supply. The cascades of the Kawayanon waterfalls are in the Barangay Gango. The Sigmatan waterfalls are located in Barangay Sil-ipon. The Lungag waterfalls are at the back of the Central Libona School near the community center.
