Baungon is a metropolitan municipality in Bukidnon Province on Mindanao Island in the Philippines . It has 34,336 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 16 barangays . It belongs to the second income bracket of the communities in the Philippines and is described as partially urbanized .

It is located approximately 132 km northwest of Malaybalay City . Their neighboring communities are Cagayan de Oro in the north, Libona in the northeast, Lantapan in the south and Talakag in the west.

The topography of the municipality is described as mountainous with large canyon-like valleys , in the southeast parts of the municipality lie in the Mount Kitanglad Range Natural Park . The Rafflesia Schadenbergiana , the largest flower in the Philippines, previously considered to be extinct, was rediscovered in it in 2007 at the foot of the 2,899 meter high Mount Kitanglad in Sitio Kalanganan, Barangay San Vicente. The plant was first described by the German Schadenberg-Koch expedition on Mount Parag in 1882. Their local name is Kolon Busaw , the indigenous Higaonon tribe live in this area.

The river Bubunawan flows through the area of ​​the municipality, it is a tributary of the Cagayan River , between the Barangay Kiliog and the center of the municipality you can admire the 100 meter high waterfalls on which the Bubunawan Falls hydropower plant is operated. It generates seven megawatts of electricity. The Minsulahog cave is located in the area of ​​the Sitio Massin, Barangay Nicdao, it is traversed by the Tumalong river. The cascades of the Lungobon waterfalls are located in the Sitio Kalanganan in Barangay San Vicente.
