Coordinates: 32 ° 24 ' S , 150 ° 41' O Muswellbrook Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 3,404.9 km² and has about 16,100 inhabitants.
Muswellbrook is located in the east of the state in the region around the Hunter River about 270 km north of the metropolis of Sydney . The area comprises 56 hamlets and hamlets, including Baerami, Baerami Creek, Castle Rock, Denman, Glen Gallic, Kayuga, Kerrabee, McCullys Gap, Muscle Creek, Muswellbrook , Sandy Hollow and Widden, Wybong. The seat of the Shire Council is in the town of Muswellbrook in the northeast of the LGA, where about 10,400 inhabitants live.

The Muswellbrook Shire Council has twelve members who are elected by LGA residents. Muswellbrook is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
