The Mother Anna Church is a Catholic church in the district town of Neustadt an der Waldnaab , Mühlberg district (Bavaria, Upper Palatinate). The church belongs to the Catholic parish of the Holy Family in Altenstadt an der Waldnaab in the diocese of Regensburg. Even after the territorial reform , whereby on April 1, 1972 the district Mühlberg Neustadt an der Waldnaab was assigned, the church remained with the parish Altenstadt an der Waldnaab.

Building history

In 1380 the Chapel of St. Nicholas was built in place of an old cult site that originally existed there. The chapel of St. Nicholas was equipped with bells, two of which are from the 14th and 15th centuries. In 1521 the structure of the chapel was enlarged and given the name St. Anna . In the years around 1770 the church was further enlarged and took on the present shape. In 1776 it received a high altar. The former organ , a positive organ with four registers , which the church received in 1819, is now in the city museum in Neustadt an der Waldnaab. In 1830, work on the high altar was carried out by Thaddäus Rabusky . The church survived the world wars undamaged. In 1942, renovation work was carried out on the high altar and the glass windows. In 1981 renovation work was carried out on the roof. In 1996 the church was closed due to the risk of collapse. From 1996 to 1999 the Mother Anna Church was extensively renovated (total expenditure: approx. 1.5 million German marks) and reopened on July 17, 1999.

The church has three altars. The main altar in the middle has an altar box with an open door, in it in the center the portrait of St. Laurentius, on the right of St. Emmeram and on the left of St. Wolfgang.

On the right is a side altar with a picture of the Visitation of Mary (modern production from the 19th century). A special feature is the small figure of Anna Selbdritt , a representation of Saint Anna with her daughter Maria and the baby Jesus. Self- third is not a name, but means to three . The figure was probably carved around 1500 and comes from the area around Würzburg.

The left side altar is an acanthus altar . This type of altar was made in Bohemia around 1680, from there they came to Bavaria and Austria. The acanthus altar in the Mother Anna Church comes from the pilgrimage church of St. Quirin near Püchersreuth .

Peal

Two bells from the late Middle Ages hang in the tower of the Mother Anna Church. The big bell was cast by an unknown founder in the 14th century. The little one, also created by an unknown foundryman, dates back to 1484 and bears the names of the four evangelists.
