The pilgrimage church of St. Quirin is a Roman Catholic pilgrimage church in the municipality of Püchersreuth in the northern Upper Palatinate . It was built from 1678 to 1680 and is now a listed building.

history

The present church was built in 1678 under Prince Ferdinand August von Lobkowitz according to plans by Antonio Porta . The construction was supported by craftsmen from the region. The building was completed in 1680. The consecration took place on August 10, 1687 by Jaroslaw Ignaz von Sternberg , the bishop of Leitmeritz .

Interior

The high altar has the shape of an acanthus altar , a shape that was often found in the Upper Palatinate during the Baroque period. The altarpiece, which shows the scene of Pentecost with the descent of the Holy Spirit on Mary and the apostles, is framed by acanthus tendrils and flowers. Two angel figures on the two acanthus arches point to the altarpiece. Above the altarpiece is the double coat of arms of the princes of Lobkowitz and the margraves of Baden-Baden, the families of the wife of prince Ferdinand von Lobkowitz. Above it is a clock from 1735 and a picture of Saint Quirin in his uniform as a tribune of Rome .

On the side altar on the left, behind a showcase, a group of people is depicted, which is the actual reason for the pilgrimage. This group of people was originally located on the winged altar of the castle chapel in the Kronburg, which was destroyed in 1530. It was set up at the foot of the Quirinberg. On the altar there is also a vessel with a relic of the head of Saint Quirinus, which was handed over to the Püchersreuth pastor by the Cologne auxiliary bishop in 2000.

The organ , which was probably donated by Prince Ferdinand August von Lobkowitz, dates back to 1692 and is therefore one of the oldest organs in the Upper Palatinate. The Maria Kulmer Pilgrim Cross is a work of art from the Egerland and dates from the time when the foot pilgrimages that lead from Neustadt an der Waldnaab to Sankt Quirin were made. It shows Mary with the child from Kulmer Berg, a butcher's journeyman at her feet and Jesus crucified on the back.

To the right of the choir in the votive chapel, numerous votive tablets hang on the walls.
