Thadæus Antonius Rabuski ( baptized April 6, 1776 in Neustadt an der Waldnaab ; † June 15, 1862 ibid) was an Upper Palatinate church painter , carver and restorer.

Life

As the first child of Laurentius Rabuski and his wife Katharina, b. Happy, born in Neustadt ad Waldnaab. In 1830 he married Barbara Vogenauer (born December 5, 1795) and first moved into the house of his in-laws in Untere Vorstadt 5 (in suburbio inferiore) . This property was in his possession until 1849. The exact date of her move to her new domicile at Stadtplatz No. 27 is not known. The marriage remained childless. His wife also served as a model; so she can be seen as Magdalena under the cross in the picture of the 12th station of the cross (parish church St. Georg, Neustadt) and as one of the weeping women of Jerusalem at the 7th station of the cross.

Works

Thaddäus Rabusky - Upper Palatinate Landscape

Rabuski's works have the special feature that his figures are tall and long-legged, that light mostly shines from above from a cloud, his angelic heads have coarse and broad faces and the background never leads into a landscape, but is closed by monumental buildings.

  • The high altar picture in the Neustadt parish church of St. Georg is the (only one created by him) copy from the St. George's Church in Amberg
  • 1st to 12th station of the cross in the Neustädter parish church (formerly in the castle church in Waldau, acquired by the Neustädter parish in 1955)
  • Three images of fasting in the parish church of St. Georg
  • Two images of fasting in the Neustädter Klosterkirche St. Felix
  • In the Neustädter Stadtmuseum there is a glass painting of St. George, two Madonna pictures and an oil painting of the Holy Family.
  • The church in Wurz was completely furnished by Rabusky (altarpiece St. Mathäus, side altarpiece, Descent from the Cross, Stations of the Cross, two individual images of Saints Andrew and Florian)
  • High altar picture as well as two pictures in the side altars and the monk picture in the choir of the pilgrimage church on the Fahrenberg
  • Way of the Cross in the church in Störnstein
  • "The Holy Family" in the Catholic parish church in Floß
  • Picture on the gallery of the church in Leuchtenberg
  • The best-known work is the copper engraving by Neustadt ad Waldnaab from 1824, which was engraved by Bechtel in Regensburg.

Individual evidence

  1. ^ Diocesan Archives Regensburg, church records Neustadt an der Waldnaab, Fiche No. 127, Vol. 7/3; Heinrich Ascherl's statement is a careless mistake, since the marriage date May 9th is before; in no church book is Rabuski written with "y", in many other entries only the genitive is always written with "Rabuskij"; Ascherl's signature with Thaddæus Rabusky is still being checked;
