Myitkyina ([mjɪʔtɕíná], Burmese မြစ်ကြီးနားမြို့ , transliteration : mrackri: na: mrui .; BGN / PCGN : myitkyinamyo) in northern Myanmar , on the west bank of the Ayeyarwady River (previously Irrawaddy, also Irawadi), is the capital of the Burmese state of Kachin and is 1,480 km north of Rangoon / Yangon and 785 km away from Mandalay . Myitkyina means "near the great river".
