Ledo , 27 ° 17'34 "N 95 ° 44'30" E, is a small town in Assam in northeast India in the Tinsukia district. The Tinsukia district is economically characterized by oil , coal and tea . Ledo is the easternmost terminus of the railway line that connects the Indian capital Delhi with northeast India. The "Tinsukia-Mail" established in 1972 now operates under the name "Brahmaputra-Mail" and connects Delhi with Tinsukia. During the Second World War, an American supply and supply route (NH 38 and NH 153) led from Ledo to Ledo Road to Myitkyinya in Burma / Myanmar and further through northern Burma to Kunming / Yunnan in western China. The nearest airport is Dibrugarh Airport. During the Second World War, Ledo was one of seven US air force bases in Assam as part of the Airlift to West China The Hump .
