Tinsukia ( Assamese তিনিচুকীয়া Tinicukīẏā ) is a city in the Indian state of Assam in the Tinsukia district . In 2011, according to the official census, about 125,000 people lived in Tinsukia. The name Tinsukia is derived from a lake in the urban area, the Tinkunia Pukhuri Lake. Assam's largest train station is in the city of Tinsukia, which is directly connected to the capital New Delhi by an express train ("Brahmaputra Mail") . In the vicinity of Tinsukia there are oil fields , coal reserves (Makum and Dilli-Jeypore / "Dilli Colliery") and tea plantations .

The Digboi Refinery, one of the largest and oldest oil refineries in Asia, is located in the Tinsukia district. Crude oil was extracted here as early as the 19th century. The Digboi Club has an 18-hole golf course.
