Mykola Petrowytsch Hluschtschenko (born September 4th July / September 17th  1901 greg. In Novomoskowsk , Yekaterinoslav Governorate , Russian Empire ; † October 31, 1977 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ). Known as the Ukrainian Monet , Hlushchenko was a Ukrainian painter and Soviet agent .

Life

Mykola Hluschtschenko emigrated to Germany in 1919 and was a graduate of the Academy of Arts in Berlin until 1924 . From 1925 he worked as a painter in Paris , where he switched from the New Objectivity to the Post - Impressionist style. In addition to landscapes, Hluschtschenko painted flowers, still lifes, nudes and portraits.

During his stay in other European countries, he also worked as a spy for the Soviet secret service under the code name Jarema ( Russian Ярема ) and provided information on German armaments projects and German war preparations to Moscow, among other things.

From 1944 onwards he was based in Kiev, according to other sources in Moscow , but was often on the road to exhibitions. His works are exhibited in museums in Russia, France, the USA, Canada and other countries. In Ukraine, paintings by Mykola Hlushchenko are exhibited in the National Museum of Ukrainian Art in Kiev. Hluschtschenko died at the age of 76 in Kiev and was buried there in the Baikowe cemetery .

In 2011, paintings “The Valley of the Dnieper” and “Village on the River”, valued at around $ 130,000, on loan to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine disappeared from the Ministry and were replaced by forgeries. In March 2014, numerous pictures, including one by Hlushchenko, were returned to the relevant museums after they were found in the former private residence Meschyhirja of the refugee President Viktor Yanukovych .
