The green peach aphid ( Myzus persicae ) is an aphid from the genus Myzus in the family of the tube aphids (Aphididae). The animals are pests . The main damage is caused by the transmission of numerous phytopathogenic viruses .
features
The lice reach a body length of two millimeters. They come in two color variants. The flightless animals of the summer generation that have no wings are colored green; in the following generations capable of flying, the head and parts of the thorax are black-brown to black.
Way of life
The animals, unlike the similar black bean lice , do not live in colonies and change hosts. The overwintering takes place mainly in the ice stage on peach trees , but also as full-grown adults in suitable places, where they continue to develop parthenogenetically even after the overwintering, like the lice that come from the main host in May . Several generations occur during the summer.
Damage
The main symptoms of an infestation by the green peach aphid are curling of the leaves and, if the infestation is severe, signs of yellowing on the summer farmers .
Combat
They can also cause damage to crops such as potatoes , which is why insecticides are used to combat them. The damage is not caused by the animals themselves, but by the transmission of viruses that cause the leaves to turn yellow.
