Mzukisi Sikali , called Lacier , (born July 30, 1971 in Port Elizabeth , † September 16, 2005 in Uitenhage ) was a South African boxer.
Life
Sikali was one of the most famous boxers in his homeland. In 1994 he won his first national championship in light flyweight . A year later the world championship of the rather insignificant WBU association followed, which he lost in 1997 to the Thai Pongsaklek Wonjongkam . Against the Argentine Juan Domingo Córdoba he won the fight for the international light flyweight title according to the version of the WBC .
In September 2002 he won the world flyweight title by the IBO version by winning on points against his compatriot Masibulele Makepula . He was able to defend this title twice. On March 27, 2005 he was defeated by the Armenian IBF World Champion Vic Darchinyan by technical knockout in the eleventh round in a unification fight in Homebush Bay, Australia .
On the night of September 16, 2005, Sikali was shot dead in his home. The 34-year-old was presumably a victim of robbery and murder.
