The first NAG Protos six-cylinder was launched in 1926 by the Berlin automobile manufacturer NAG, initially as the NAG 12/60 PS Type D6 . The construction came from chief engineer Christian Riecken . After taking over the Protos automotive division from Siemens-Schuckert in the following year , the same car was sold as a joint development under the name NAG-Protos 12/60 PS .

The same thing happened with the NAG 14/70 PS type D7, which was developed in 1927 . It was then called NAG-Protos 14/70 PS .

Both vehicles had pressed steel frames made of U-profile, which were provided with two rigid axles. The front axles had semi-elliptical leaf springs, the rear axles had Underslung semi-springs . The six-cylinder OHV in-line engine of the D6 delivered 60 hp from 3.1 liters displacement, that of the D7 70 hp from 3.6 liters. The engine power was passed on to the rear wheels via an unsynchronized 4-speed gearbox with center shift.

In 1928 the 12/60 PS became the NAG Protos Type 201 ; the 14/70 PS for the NAG Protos type 204 . The new designer Gabriel Lenard from France, whom Riecken had replaced, developed a semi-automatic centrifugal clutch for the two models with a slightly larger body that acted like a torque converter when starting . However, as before, the clutch still had to be disconnected to change gears. This "centrifugal clutch" was installed together with a 3-speed gearbox.

Paul Henze , who took over from Simson (company) and who succeeded Lenard in 1929, developed a low frame for the six-cylinder in 1930, which was also made of U-profile pressed steel. Equipped with a 4-liter engine with 80 hp, the NAG Protos Type 207 for the 4 and 6-seater body variants and the NAG Protos Type 208 for the sports convertible were created. Incidentally, the wheelbases of both models were the same!

All six-cylinder models did not sell particularly well because they were born into the Great Depression and also competed with established models such as the Mercedes-Benz Nürburg 460/500 and the Horch 8 . Up to the end of production in 1933, a maximum of 2000 copies of all types were made.
