The NAG type C4 was brought onto the market in 1920 by the Berlin automobile manufacturer NAG as the first car model after the First World War . The construction came from chief engineer Christian Riecken .
It had a 4-cylinder in-line engine with upright valves and a displacement of 2.55 liters, producing 30 hp (22 kW) at 1700 rpm. and transmitted its power to the rear wheels via a 4-speed gearbox with a gear lever on the outside right. The engine was equipped with magneto ignition . The car had a U-profile pressed steel frame and two rigid axles that were suspended from semi-elliptical leaf springs. It was available as a 6-seater touring car, a four-door landaulet or a 4-door sedan.
2 years later the sports car type C4b was introduced. Its engine developed 40, later even 45 HP (33 kW). The rear semi-elliptic leaf springs were carried out under the axle. Instead of steel-spoke wheels, the sports car had wire-spoke wheels. The four-seater, open car achieved a number of victories at motorsport events, mostly driven by the designer Riecken himself. From 1924 this type was also called "Monza".
From 1925 the type C4m inherited the C4b. Its 2.6 liter engine developed 50 hp (37 kW); the valves were positioned at an angle to the cylinder axis for better gas flow. The wheelbase was shortened by 200 mm. Some of these chassis were, however, provided with heavy limousine and touring car bodies. This resulted in frame breaks and other imperfections that damaged the brand's reputation.
As early as 1924, the NAG type D4 had replaced the type C4. Its 2.6 liter engine with overhead valves developed 45 hp (33 kW). The shift lever for the 4-speed gearbox was now either on the inside right or in the middle of the car.
When production ended in 1927, a total of around 5000 copies of all C4 and D4 types had been made.
