NEWS (band)
NEWS (formerly NewS ) are a Japanese J-Pop boy band from the talent factory of Johnny & Associates . The name is made up of the first letters of the English words for the four cardinal points. The four official members are Keiichirō Koyama, Takahisa Masuda , Shigeaki Katō and Yuya Tegoshi . The band originally started with 9 members, but lost a total of 5 members since its formation in 2003 to 2011. Hiroki Uchi and Hironori Kusano left the group due to scandals, while Tomohisa Yamashita and Ryō Nishikido announced their departure in October 2011.
Yuya Tegoshi and Takahisa Masuda have also released Tegomass Singles as a vocal unit in Japan and Sweden.
In addition to their vocal careers, the band members are also involved in other genres.

- Shigeaki Katō has published a total of six literary works by January 2018 and writes short and serial stories for various magazines.
- Yuya Tegoshi is a regular member of the variety show Sekai no Hate Made ItteQ! , one of the most successful Japanese variety shows.
- Takahisa Masuda designs his own photo series in the monthly fashion magazine mina .
biography
NewS officially started their career in September 2003 with nine founding members: Tomohisa Yamashita (ex. 4 Tops ), Keiichirō Koyama, Shigeaki Katō, Hironori Kusano (all three ex. KKKity ), Takahisa Masuda (ex. Kis-My-Ft ), Yuya Tegoshi, Takahiro Moriuchi (ex. Jr.BOYS ), Ryō Nishikido and Hiroki Uchi (both ex. Kansai Jr. ). They were all selected from Johnny's Juniors groups.
Their first single, NEWS Nippon , was released on November 7th and according to the date it was only sold in 7-Eleven stores. It also became the official song of the 2003 Volleyball World Cup . Due to his studies Moriuchi Takahiro decided a short time later in December 2003 to leave the group and Johnny's Entertainment.
Her major debut single Kibou ~ Yell ~ was released in May 2004 under her old name, but with the changed spelling NEWS , which, like the singles that followed, secured first place on the Oricon charts. Besides KAT-TUN and the Kinki Kids , who also belong to Johnny's Entertainment, they are the only ones who have succeeded so far . In July, the group Kanjani∞ was founded by Johnny's , in which Ryō and Hiroki also joined as members.
After another singles and their only previous album touch NEWS were put on hold in 2006, as Hiroki Uchi alleged to have been drinking in July 2005 and in January 2006 Kusano alcohol, even though they were minors. Johnny's rules regarding alcohol are very strict due to the large number of underage fans, and Uchi has had to stop its activities. Kusano is said to have asked to be suspended, according to his own statements out of consideration for the fans.
The remaining members were allowed to devote themselves to their own projects in the meantime. Tomohisa 'YamaP' Yamashita released a successful single under his name and, like the other members, starred in television drama , while Ryō continued to work for Kanjani∞.
NEWS 'comeback was initiated at the New Year's Eve concert Johnny's Countdown 2006-2007 , at which they first appeared again. Initially the official number of members remains at 6, Hiroki Uchi and Hironori Kusano were allowed to resume their activities as trainees , apprentices. Also the most recent single released after this hiatus, Hoshi wo Mezashite secured first place in the charts and became their best-selling single after their debut single.
NEWS 'latest single, weeeek , was released on November 7, 2007, written and composed by the well-known Japanese band GReeeeN . The song was also used in the commercials for the Russ-K clothing label , which NEWS is promoting. The long-awaited 2nd album Pacific was released on the same day . Both single and album secured number 1 in the Oricon charts.
For the film about the dorama Kurosagi , in which Yamashita Tomohisa plays the leading role again, NEWS delivers the title song Taiyou no Namida . The single for the song was released on February 27, 2008, the film ran on March 8, 2008 in Japanese theaters.
