Tomohisa Yamashita ( Japanese 山下 智 久 , Yamashita Tomohisa ; born April 9, 1985 in Chiba Prefecture , Japan ) often called YamaP ( 山 ピ ー or 山 P ) by fans , is a Japanese singer and actor. He is under contract with Johnny & Associates . He used to belong to the boy band NEWS , but left them and is now a solo singer.

biography

Tomohisa Yamashita stated in an interview that he decided to audition at Johnny's because he wanted to play in Dorama . He was encouraged to do so when he saw Hideaki Takizawa (now with Tackey & Tsubasa ), who had his first television appearances at a very young age. Tomohisa joined Johnny's in 1996 at the age of 11 under the name Tomohisa Yamashita. This is not his maiden name.

In his Johnny's Junior days, before his official debut with NEWS , he was a member of the groups BIG and Four Tops . The latter consisted of him and Toma Ikuta , Jun Hasegawa and Shunsuke Kazama . With them he began to moderate the Johnny's Junior television show Shōnen Club in 2002 .

Immediately after joining Johnny's, he began his acting career. In 2000 he starred in the drama Ikebukuro West Gate Park . That same year, he was voted Best Boyfriend and Most Beautiful for the first time at Johnny's Annual Junior Awards .

In September 2003, 8 other junior members were elected alongside him to form a group for the 2003 Volleyball World Cup and to sing the theme song for the World Cup. Four Tops were disbanded as a result. Initially only planned for a month, NEWS was so successful that the group stayed. Since their official debut on May 12, 2004, NewS as a band alongside KAT-TUN and the Kinki Kids have managed to maneuver all of their singles to first place on the Oricon charts.

In October 2005, Yamashita and KAT-TUNs formed Kazuya Kamenashi on the occasion of the Doramas Nobuta. o Produce in which they both played, the group Shuji to Akira ( 修 二 と 彰 ). In this formation they released the successful single Seishun Amigo ( 青春 ア ミ ー ゴ ), which was sold over 1 million times in 4 weeks. This single was the top selling record in the Oricon Yearly Single Rankings in 2005.

NEWS was suspended for a period because two underage members had been drinking alcohol. Members who were not involved were allowed to take up their own activities. In 2006, Yamashita received the lead role in the dorama adaptation of the manga Kurosagi . As the theme song for this dorama, he released the single Daite Señorita as a solo singer under his own name , which also topped the Oricon charts.

In autumn 2006 the group Kitty GYM was founded, which consists of Go lf, M ike, Y amashita and the junior's K itayama Hiromitsu ( Kiss-my-ft2 ), I nō Kei ( Hey! Say! Jump ), T otsuka Shōta ( ABC -Z ) and Y aotome Hikaru ( Hey! Say! Jump ). They were supposed to support the Japanese women's volleyball team and released the single Fever to Future as GYM in August .

Yamashita returned as a member on the occasion of NEWS 'reunion. They first appeared on December 31, 2006 at Johnny's Countdown 2006-2007 on New Year's Eve .

In 2007, Yamashita expanded his acting career with leading roles in the drama Byakkotai alongside KAT-TUNs Koki Tanaka and Taisuke Fujigaya from Kiss-my-ft2 and in Proposal Daisakusen . In early 2008 the film for the Dorama Kurosagi with Yamashita was released in Japanese cinemas.
