KAT-TUN is a J-Pop group founded, promoted and marketed by Johnny & Associates . The band name is an acronym formed from the first letters of the surnames of the initial members ( K amenashi, A kanishi, T aguchi, T anaka, U eda, N akamaru). Since Akanishi left the group in 2010, the A in the band name is officially replaced by the extension of the initials of KA menashi. After Tanaka (in 2013) and Taguchi (in 2016) left, T a t suya (Ueda) is now replacing T anaka and T aguchi 's T's .

biography

The members of KAT-TUN all belonged to different groups from Johnny's Jr. , the offspring of Johnny & Associates , having all joined the organization as teenagers between the ages of 13 and 14 in 1998. 2001 chose Domoto Koichi of the produced also by Johnny's group Kinki Kids six boys among the young talents from the backing dancers for his appearances on the music show PopJam radio station NHK should be. They made their first appearances as background dancers for more established groups such as Kinki Kids or Arashi . Although originally planned as a pure dance group, they gained so much attention under the name KAT-TUN that Johnny's eventually produced them as a pop group. In August 2002 the band presented itself for the first time on the stage of the Tokyo International Forum with 3000 seats. The specialty was that KAT-TUN was the first of the Johnny's Jr. groups to perform independently and sing their own songs, a possibility that until then was only available to established older groups such as SMAP or Arashi .

In February of the next year they released their first live DVD of this concert, another rarity at Johnny's, as KAT-TUN were not yet officially classified as professional. This release immediately went to number 1 on the associated charts.

On January 5, 2005, the group performed at an event for the 100th time in their career at the 12,000-seat Yokohama Arena . Their tour, which started at the end of May, had to be expanded to include two additional concerts in the Yokohama Arena, which took place in August.

On October 12, 2006, Jin Akanishi officially announced in a press conference that he would be going to Los Angeles for six months to study English. The remaining members continued their activities and took up the third single Bokura no Machi de , which they released on December 7th.

On April 10th 2007 the third live concert DVD Live of KAT-TUN Real Face was released and on April 17th 2007 the second KAT-TUN album cartoon KAT-TUN II you was released.

On the evening of April 19, 2007, Akanishi arrived back in Japan. A press conference was held on April 20, 2007 with all 6 members announcing that Akanishi is officially returning to KAT-TUN. The 2007 concert tour had already started at this point. From then on, Akanishi was more and more involved in every subsequent concert. At the four final concerts of the tour in the Tokyo Dome in June 2007, he was fully present.

Her fourth single, Yorokobi no Uta , was released on June 6th.

In July 2010, Johnny Kitagawa announced that Akanishi would officially leave the group in the same year to continue working on his solo career. The group is to remain with five members without Akanishi, Akanishi's A in the band name is officially replaced by the extension of the initials of KA menashi.

With the simultaneous release of their debut single Real Face , their album Best of KAT-TUN and the DVD Real Face Film , KAT-TUN topped all three charts, something only the singer Hamasaki Ayumi had ever achieved before . They hold the record for the best-selling debut single with 754,234 sales in the first week and the record for the best-selling debut DVD with 374,202 sales in the first week. The album Best of KAT-TUN went over the counter 556,548 times in the same time. Members

Often called Kame, which literally means turtle , he was one of the two most popular members of KAT-TUN alongside Jin. After Jin's departure, he is the main singer of the band and takes on most of the solo parts. Although he is the youngest, he is the main speaker for the group. He played in several drama and has received seven awards for it so far. Among other things, he played in the spring of 2005 with Akanishi Jin in the popular drama Gokusen  2 on the side of the actor Yukie Nakama, who became popular through the series . The show received a lot of media attention and increased the band's popularity as Kamenashi also sang the show's theme song, Kizuna . In July 2009, he played again the role of Odagiri in Gokusen: the Movie , who happens to come to the same school as his former class teacher Yamaguchi Kumiko as a trainee lawyer. He also played larger roles in other doramas, his last role as "Yamaneko" in the drama "Kaito Yamaneko" in 2016.
  • Akanishi Jin (赤 西 仁 ; * July 4, 1984 ), often called Bakanishi (Japanese baka literally means stupid or idiot ), was one of the two most popular KAT-TUN members with Kamenashi because of his appearance and voice. He can play guitar and also writes a lot of songs for himself and wrote songs for KAT-TUN, such as: B. Care , Hesitate , Love or Like, and Murasaki . He took over the most difficult parts of the songs. He played in the Doramas Gokusen  2 , Anego and in a Dorama Special called Kurisumasu Nante Daikirai (German: 'I hate Christmas').   • Taguchi Junnosuke ( 田 口 淳 之 介 ; * November 29, 1985 ), also called Junno, has acrobatic skills in addition to singing. His trademark is his smile. He is also known for telling bad puns or jokes and for often misinterpreting certain situations. His most famous saying is: “Iriguchi, Deguchi, Taguchi desu ~! (Entrance, exit, I'm Taguchi ~! “), Which is a play on words with the Kanji of his name. In 2004 he injured his knee and had to take a break for a few months. In 2002 he starred in the film Mohouhan with Nakai Masahiro from SMAP . In the dorama Ganbatte Ikimasshoi he played together with Anne Suzuki and NEWS member Nishikido Ryō . He replaced Uchi Hiroki from NEWS , who had been suspended from the fourth episode for illicit alcohol consumption. Taguchi also played on a special called Happy! and the sequel Happy! 2 .   • Tanaka Kōki ( 田中 聖 ; * November 5, 1985) takes on the rap part in the songs. Under the stage name J∅KER he writes most of the lyrics of the rap songs himself and has also started to write his own pieces. He also does martial arts and, like Taguchi, is very acrobatic. Kōki played the role of Kazuya in the dorama My Boss My Hero (Japanese マ イ ☆ ボ ス マ イ ☆ ヒ - ロ -) together with Nagase Tomoya from TOKIO and Tegoshi Yuya from NEWS in the summer of 2006. Kōki and Kamenashi met in the fall of 2006 in the dorama Tatta Hitotsu no Koi in appearance. In 2007 he played the lead role in the drama Tokkyu Tanaka 3 Go .   • Nakamaru Yuichi ( 中 丸 雄 一 ; * September 4, 1983) is the oldest member of the band and is known for his humor. In addition, he is a very fearful person, so he z. activities

Like most other Johnny's bands, the members are KAT-TUN's idols who not only sing and dance as a group, but also take part in various Johnny's shows and other productions. They also advertise products on Japanese television or appear as actors in doramas and films.

  • TV shows
In 2005, KAT-TUN became regular participants on the Utawara HOT Hit 10 show , formerly known as Minna no Terebi , along with another Johnny's member, Matsumoto Jun from Arashi . You moderate the Shōnen Club on NHK and also appeared in other shows such as Yoru Mo Hippare and Hadaka no Shōnen .
From April 4, 2007 to March 24, 2010 the band had their own show called Cartoon KAT-TUN with a total of three seasons. In the first season, the singers mainly interviewed other celebrities. The theme for the second season was, "What is love?", With the band members pretending to live in underground bunkers. They were visited by people like the woman who loves beauty and health or the primitive who loves a princess . The third season was about finding everyday rules that not necessarily everyone knows. The men were with guests z. At the end of 2006 they were integrated into Dream Boy , the first solo musical by Hideaki Takizawa by Tackey & Tsubasa, alongside Kanjani8 . Kamenashi Kazuya got the lead role back in 2005 when Takizawa was too busy filming the drama Yoshitsune . Summary is another musical in which KAT-TUN act together with other groups.

As is usual in Japan, the band also increases its popularity through commercials. They appear regularly in the advertising clips for the Crunky (chocolate wafers ) and + X (chewing gum) brands from Lotte, as well as for lip gloss and contact lenses from Rohto .
Kamenashi and Akanishi are also promoting Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix , a Nintendo commercial , as well as Oronamin C and various DoCoMo cell phone commercials . DoCoMO's advertising also shows their song signal and in the accompanying video clip they are clearly using the company's devices.
