Kanjani8

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kanjani⚭ ( Japanese 関 ジ ャ ニ ⚭ , Kanjani eight ; meaning: Kan derived from Kansai and Jani derived from Johnny's) are a Japanese boy group of Johnny & Associates , whose members come from the Kansai region.

Along with KAT-TUN and NEWS, they are one of the organization's most successful newcomer bands, and their level of fame has risen tremendously in Japan in recent years. The band was founded in 2002, but made their debut as "Johnny's modern Enka group" in 2004.

Although they continued to be classified in the genre of enka and broke numerous sales records in this genre, they can now cover a wide range of music genres - from rock and pop, ballads and blues to funk and jazz, with some of their songs also presented in a comedic manner become, like Sukiyanen, Osaka , one of their most popular songs.

Kanjani⚭ have a reputation for being particularly funny and loud. However, this reputation also presents the Kansai region in general, as the region's population is considered to be the most cheerful, funniest and most open in all of Japan. Kanjani's attachment to Osaka, the culinary capital of the Kansai region, is often reflected in her songs. Osaka is often sung about in their songs or the pride and love of the city is already expressed in the titles, for example in the aforementioned Sukiyanen, Osaka , Osaka Rainy Blues , Osaka Obachan Rock or Osaka Romanesque .

Like all other bands in Johnny & Associates, the band meets the requirements to be able to sing and dance. They also have many other talents such as hosting TV shows, acting, playing instruments, and even Manzai , a Japanese twist on stand-up comedy.

Members

  • Yokoyama Yū ( civil Yokoyama Kimitaka 横山 裕 , born May 9, 1981 )
Yoko, as he is called by band members and fans, is the most talkative member of Kanjani⚭ with Shingo. Therefore, it is often assumed that he is the leader of the band, but Kanjani⚭ do not have a leader. He owes the name personally to Johnny Kitagawa, who found “Kimitaka” to be relatively “uncool”. Some also refer to him as Peter Pan , because despite his position as the oldest member, he appears the most lively and childish. He has already acted in a few doramas. For example, he also played an important role in the real film adaptation (Dorama) of Yūkan Club .
Subaru sings most of the songs. He stands out from others with his enka- style singing . He also plays the guitar. He doesn't like talking about his past. He has a skull tattoo, which he tries to cover up on TV appearances because it is not appropriate for an idol to have one.
His nickname Hina, which was derived from the actress Hinagata Akiko , because he was once said to look similar to her, has become naturalized within the Johnny's organization and in fandom. He and Yoko keep the band together. Due to his talkativeness, Hina also hosts two radio shows, on the one hand Recomen together with Yoko and on the other hand his own: Murakami Shingo no Jyukan! Kanjani Tsushin .
Maru, who is considered to be the funniest member of the band, plays the bass in Kanjani8. He likes to express his humor together with Subaru. His favorite word is “Paaaan!”, Which is why he makes a gesture with which the hand is suddenly stretched out to the side.
Ryō, who also plays guitar, is famous for his sharp tongue. He's been very popular since he joined Johnny's.
Yasu is the band's guitarist. He writes the lyrics and composes for the subgroups SanKyodai and SubaruBAND. He likes to hold back.
Ōkura, also known as Tacchon, is the drummer of Kanjani8. Originally he was part of the MAO Juniors Unit. He learned to play the drums in a month after he was offered the drummer's place with Kanjani. He is also cautious and often appears serious. Because he was often teased about his name, he was given many nicknames such as “Hotel Ōkura”, “Tatsuyoshi” or “Johnny Ōkura”.

Suspended member

Uchi was suspended as the youngest member in July 2005 by both NEWS and Kanjani⚭ because he was photographed drunk as a minor at the time. It should be built close to the water and, according to various members, have an Oedipus complex . He has countless nicknames, such as “Honey Toast” (from Subaru), “Hiyo (ko)”, Piroki, Prince of Eito, Shakkun (from Ryo) or Pinku, as the color pink symbolizes him. In 2007 he was allowed to resume his activity with the musical PlayZone, and got “trainee” status at Johnnys. In 2008 he got the lead role in the mini-drama “Isshun no Kaze ni Nare”.

biography

Most of Kanjani⚭'s members joined Johnny's Entertainment as Kansai Junior’s around 1996–1997. They became part of the “Golden Era” of Juniors. Led by Hideaki Takizawa ( Tackey & Tsubasa ), the juniors generation at that time was able to win over many fans at that time, which also benefited the Kanjani⚭ members.

After Uchi Hiroki joined Johnny's Entertainment in 1999, a new Kansai Junior Unit called V West was formed. The band consisted of Uchi Hiroki (vocals), Yasuda Shōta (guitar), Maruyama Ryūhei (bass), Mizuno Kiyohito (guitar) and Imayama Toru (drums). V West had a regular television show called Weekly V West that aired on Kansai TV . The band was also popular enough to hold their own concert. However, Imayama Toru and Mizuno Kiyohito left V West and Johnny's Entertainment.

Ōkura Tadayoshi, the eighth Kanjani⚭ member, was actually also supposed to become a V West member . However, since he was more interested in dancing, he declined the offer. When Johnny Kitagawa was looking for an eighth member for Kanjani⚭ and the position of drummer was not yet occupied, Ōkura decided to learn it and so Kanjani⚭ were founded in 2000.

2001 to 2003

In 2001 the activities of the Kansai Juniors decreased drastically because they could not gain as much popularity as was hoped. The musical Another , performed in 2001 , ultimately delivered the desired success. Since then, Kanjani⚭, supported by the Kansai Juniors, performed one piece every summer until 2006. However, it took two more years for their shows to sell out.

After Another, the most famous Kansai Juniors got the opportunity to host their own show. Weekly V West was reborn as J ° Kansai ( JCube Kansai ). J ° Kansai aired on Channel 8 on Kansai TV , and the producers thought that getting an eight-piece band on the show would be a nice hook. From then on, Kanjani⚭ were part of the standard moderation.

The “comeback” ended with a Christmas concert, another event that Kanjani8 held every year until 2005 at the Osaka Shochiku-za Theater .

Although Kanjani⚭ were still to be seen as a new unit, surprisingly two members, Uchi Hiroki and Nishikido Ryō, became Johnny's NEWS unit . From then on, the two had to master their activities in two bands.

2004 to 2005

Kanjani⚭ largely focused their activities on the Kansai region. The Osaka Shochiku-za Theater became something of a home venue for them, where they could build a loyal fan base.

Kanjani⚭ first performed at the annual Yagura Dance Bon Odori Festival at Osaka-jo Hall in 2004 when Yokoyama and Murakami learned that they were making their debut in the enka genre. The other band members only found out about it later through a newspaper article.

On August 25, 2004, the limited single Naniwa Iroha Bushi intended only for the Kansai region was released. The song was a hit and made it to number 8 on the Oricon Singles Chart , although sales were limited to the Kansai region . Therefore, the single was released nationwide on September 22, 2004 and stormed first place in the charts, making it the first enka single in seventeen years to succeed.

The nationwide release marked the official debut of the two-year-old band. Kanjani⚭ held their first concert Kansha ni Eight in Tokyo in Tokyo on November 11, 2004.

On December 15, 2004, their first mini-album Kansha ni Eight was released. The 2004 Christmas concert was recorded and released the following year as their first concert DVD ( Excite !! ).

In 2004 Kanjani⚭ worked together with KAT-TUN in the musical DREAM BOY , in which Takizawa Hideaki played the leading role. The two bands played a leading role in this musical in 2005 and 2006.

The singles from Kanjani⚭ continued to sell well despite comparatively little advertising. Their second single Osaka Rainy Blues , which was released on March 2, 2005, reached a sales figure of over 160,000 copies after the first week.

On September 14th, their single Sukiyanen, Osaka! but only in second place, as it was not up to Ayumi Hamasaki's publication.

In 2005 they had their first big concert at Osaka-jo Hall Zenyasai. Unfortunately, they couldn't fully deny this event as Uchi Hiroki had been suspended from Johnny's.

Sub-bands

Kanjani⚭ have different sub-bands within the band.

  • V.WEST (“five-west”) - Uchi Hiroki, Maruyama Ryuhei, Yasuda Shota, Ōkura Tadayoshi
    • The band already existed as a band in their "junior's" times. Ōkura Tadayoshi came on as a drummer after former members Imayama Tooru and Mizuno Kiyohito left them.
    • Since Kanjani8 existed, they no longer appear as an independent band, but only as a unit at Kanjani⚭ concerts.
  • MANZAI
    • Yamada - Maruyama Ryūhei ( boke ), Yasuda Shōta ( tsukkomi )
    • Matsubara Kazuhiro - Shibutani Subaru ( boke ), Murakami Shingo ( tsukkomi )

Both duos have been playing in concerts, TV shows such as Shōnen Club and the Ya-Ya-Yah TV Show since their junior years

  • The Murakami-Shibutani combination also played for Downtown ( owarai ) in Hey! Hey Hey Music Champ .
  • SubaruBand - Shibutani Subaru (singer, guitarist, lyricist), Yasuda Shōta (guitarist, composer), Maruyama Ryūhei (bassist), Ōkura Tadayoshi (drummer)
    • The band performed during Kanjani⚭ concerts. Originals written by Shibutani and Yasuda are: ONE (also included on the album KJ1 FTO ), High Position and Down Up . They want to write even more original songs so that their dream of playing in live houses will one day come true
  • Kanjimi3 / OhYamada - Yasuda Shōta, Maruyama Ryūhei, Ōkura Tadayoshi
    • Since they were relatively rare in Kanjanis⚭ show Mugendai no Gimon , they were raised with the name Kanjimi 3 ( jimi - Japanese slang for humble). This was later changed to OhYamada (an acronym of their names).
    • Coincidentally, the band is also Kanjani's centerpiece, as the trio usually plays instruments during Kanjani concerts.
    • Songs: Ashita (plays the first live at Osaka-jo Hall in 2005) and Monaco Blues
  • SanKyōdai (3 brothers) - Yū (Yokoyama Yū), Chipa (Yasuda Shōta), Baru (Shibutani Subaru)
    • This is an acoustic band. Yoko writes the lyrics, Chipa composes and accompanies on the guitar, while Baru sings.
    • Songs: Purin (pudding), Ame-chan (Bonbon-chan), Mikan (mandarin) and Onigishi . Purine and Onigishi are also featured on the KJ1 FTO album.
  • 8 Renja ( Eight Ranger )
    • Kanjani⚭ play their Eito Ranger parodies at their concerts. This is Kanjani⚭s current sub-band very similar to Super Sentai and Power Rangers . The Eight Rangers are Kanjani's alter ego who have appeared in all of their recent concerts since the X-Mas Party in 2005.
    • The Eito Rangers have their own intro and each color of their costumes is assigned to a specific member:
      • "Black" - Yokoyama Yū
      • "Red" - Shibutani Subaru
      • "Green" - Ōkura Tadayoshi
      • "Orange" - Maruyama Ryūhei
      • "Blue" - Yasuda Shōta
      • "Yellow" - Nishikido Ryō
      • "Nasu" (eggplant) for (delicate) purple - Murakami Shingo
    • Yokoyama is usually responsible for writing the "account" for the Eito Rangers. But you also improvise a lot.
