NGC 2040 (also N59B ) is a nebula complex that is associated with an OB association ( LH 88 ) and is located on the edge of the super- bubble LMC4 in the large Magellanic Cloud in the constellation Dorado, about 160 k ly away . The complex consists of an H-II area in the northern part and the supernova remnant SNR 0536-676 in the southern part, which forms an almost spherical bubble-shaped structure shaped by filaments. The stellar association contains several massive young stars. The object appears in the sky as a striped structure running roughly in a north-south direction and is located immediately east of N59A .
