The steam locomotives NKAG 12-14 were four - axle meter-gauge tank locomotives ( wheel arrangement D ) that were built by Henschel for the Nassauische Kleinbahn (NKAG). The locomotives were in operation until the line was closed in 1962 and were then scrapped.

history

The locomotives NKAG 12–14 built in 1917 were more powerful than the NKAG 1–8, which had been used since the opening of the Nassauische Kleinbahn . In 1910, the locomotive park was enlarged with a design by Borsig , followed by two locomotives from Jung from 1912/1913. All of these four-way coupled tank locomotives only differed slightly in design. In terms of their size, weight and performance, they corresponded to the route profile of the NKAG with its difficult incline.

The main task of the new locomotives was the limestone trains to Sankt Goarshausen and supplemented the previous small-scale character. The depot was in Nastätten . After the line section Miehlen - Braubach was demolished, minor repairs were carried out in the locomotive shed in Braubach; for major repairs or overhauls, the locomotives had to be transported by road to Nastätten.

The NKAG 12 was retired 1958th The NKAG 13 had received a main inspection in Nastätten in 1957 . The locomotive NKAG 14 was sent to Jung for a general inspection in 1958. Due to their valid boiler deadlines, these two locomotives were the only operational traction vehicles when the railway was finally in service and were in operation until 1962. Then they were retired and scrapped.

Constructive features

The design of the locomotives corresponded to industrial locomotives from an extensive range from Henschel in Kassel. To achieve a low susceptibility to failure, they were built as wet steam locomotives.

They were equipped with two sandboxes and each had a sand downpipe in front of and behind the first and third axis. They also had a vapor barrier and a handbrake. All wheels were braked with brake blocks acting from behind.
