The NS class 1000 was the version of the AC electric locomotive series SBB Ae 4/6 of the Swiss Federal Railways designed for the direct current network of the Dutch State Railways . The vehicles 1001 to 1003 were manufactured by SLM in Winterthur and the numbers 1004 to 1010 by Werkspoor NV in Utrecht . Almost without exception, they were used in freight train service from 1948 to 1982 . Like the original samples in Switzerland , the Dutch versions were also very prone to failure. The 1010 locomotive was transferred to the Utrecht Railway Museum after its retirement .
