The locomotives of the NS 2100 series were express train steam locomotives of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), which were taken over by the Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij (HSM).

The locomotives had a 2'B wheel arrangement. The 501–535 series was designed by HSM engineer Willem Hupkes for the transport of increasingly heavy passenger and express trains. Since the rival company Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen (SS) had switched to more powerful 2'C machines of the SS 700 series , HSM could not lag behind. Although an HSM design for a 2'C engine is known, a 2'B locomotive was ultimately chosen. However, this was not due to the limited length of the turntables , as is often wrongly assumed, because all the turntables available to the HSM were large enough for 2'C locomotives. However, the machines had the maximum permissible axle load of 17 tons and the largest drive wheels in the Netherlands (2100 mm), which is why they were ideal for express trains. Because of the rattling noise of the coupling rods , they were called "Blikken Tinus" - German tinny Martin - by the staff . The locomotives were built by the Berliner Maschinenbau -AG formerly L. Schwartzkopff (BMAG) in Berlin and Werkspoor in Amsterdam .

After the unification of the HSM and SS vehicle fleet, the locomotives were given NS numbers 2101–2135 in 1921. The 2104 locomotive, formerly HSM 504, built in 1914 by Berliner Maschinenbau, was the last of this series to be retired in 1954 and has been preserved in the Nederlands Spoorwegmuseum .
