The El 17 is an electric locomotive of the Norges Statsbaner (NSB). It is based on the DB class 120 and was ordered in two deliveries of six each.
operation area
The El 17, built as a universal locomotive, was purchased at the same time as the Type 7 passenger carriages. Thanks to the maximum axle pressure of 16 tons and a minimum negotiable curve radius of 100 m, they can be used on secondary routes. They replaced the NSB El 11 and NSB El 13 . Until the delivery of the NSB El 18 , they pulled the express trains on the Dovrebahn .
Most recently, the El 17 were only used as shunting locomotives in the Oslo-Lodalen depot and on the Flåmsbana . For use on the Flåmsbana, six locomotives were given the green paint of the tourist train (numbers 2227–2232).
In July 2014, El 17 at Flåmsbana was replaced by El 18 and retired in autumn 2014. The scrapping took place in 2015/2016.
Preserved locomotives
El 17 2223 in the Norsk Jernbane Museum in Hamar (but not on display) and El 17 2230 in Flåm are preserved in the museum. There is also the driver's cab for El 17 2231 in Flåm.
