Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri AS in Oslo , known as NEBB , was a Norwegian subsidiary of the Swiss company Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC) from 1908 to 1988 . The company became part of Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) in 1988 . NEBB built electrical equipment for locomotives and railcars for Norges Statsbaner (NSB) in the factories in Skoyen and Strømmen .

history

Around the Frogner and Bestumkilen in Kristiania , several mechanical workshops were founded at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, some of which are still important components of large corporations today.

The predecessor on NEBB's property on Sjølyst-Allee was Frognerkilen's factory , which was founded in 1874. She built agricultural machinery, foundry supplies and sewing machines . In 1880 it found its niche: the manufacture of electrical machines. The first of these was delivered in 1881.

In 1894 the company got a new name: Norsk Elektrisk AS . Ten years later the collaboration with Brown, Boveri & Cie. and in 1908 the two companies were to Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri AS merged .

In 1948 the merger with Skabo jernbanevognfabrik took place . Skabo was shut down in 1973 and production relocated to Strømmens Værksted , which NEBB bought in 1979. In 1988 NEBB became part of Asea Brown Boveri .

NEBB supplied the electrical equipment for the locomotives of the types El 8 , El 9 , El 11 , El 13 , El 14 and El 17 as well as the railcars of the types BM 64 to BM 69 of the Norges Statsbaner (NSB) and was involved in the construction of trams - and subway cars involved.

In 1993, NEBB's industrial production ended . Offices, apartments and shops were built on the factory site. Some buildings were preserved in memory of NEBB and Skabo.
