The NSU / Fiat Weinsberg 500 (from 1960 Neckar Weinsberg 500 ) with its types Limousette and Coupé is a vehicle based on the Fiat Nuova 500 (1957–1977). Like the Neckar Pully, it was designed by NSU / FIAT Karosseriewerke Weinsberg . This was made possible because NSU / FIAT also had their own development department in Heilbronn, in which well-known designers such as Antonio Fessia worked. NSU / Fiat presented the Weinsberg in March 1959. During the construction period from 1959 to 1963, a total of 6,228 vehicles were manufactured. In 1959 it cost 3,840 DM and in 1962 3,620 DM.
German modification of the production body
Two Weinsberg versions were sold for the same price of 3,840 DM including heating and sunroof (whitewall tires + 50 DM) - the Coupe and the Limousette. They only differ in the design of the rear window: the coupé had a panoramic window at the rear; the headroom above the back seat was only enough for small children (up to about 7 years). The limousette looked like a small limousine with rear side windows and steeper, flat arched rear window, hence the name. It offered a little more headroom than the Coupé, but less than the normal Fiat 500 Nuova. Both Weinsberg models are two-seaters with additional space for 2 children or luggage. The German tires 4.40-12 used at the Weinsberg instead of the 125-12 of the normal Fiat 500 show that the factory also regards the Weinsberg as a two-seater; their listed maximum load-bearing capacity is slightly lower than the slightly wider 125-12. The Weinsberg version, in contrast to the Autobianchi Bianchina, is made from partially assembled series bodies, which in the Weinsberg bodywork near Heilbronn are fitted with body ends at the front and rear, a higher front hood, a different roof finish and a correspondingly modified engine hood can be added. The car has been given the character of a luxury version thanks to a number of additional features: real sunroof instead of folding roof, bow ornament, special bumpers, standard two-tone design and hub caps, ashtrays in the dashboard, friendlier upholstery fabrics, wide pockets in the doors. The storage space at the front is advantageous, which was made possible by the fact that the spare wheel could be placed under the higher hood on the tank. The starting point, which can hardly be concealed by an ornament, was more skilfully covered in the new version by a smooth side strip. In terms of driving performance and driving characteristics, the Weinsberg fully corresponds to the normal Fiat 500. The daily production was 14 cars.
In addition to the NSU / Fiat Weinsberg, the Autobianchi Bianchina and the Puch 500 were also based on the Nuova 500. While the Autobianchi - like the Weinsberg - combined the mechanics of the Fiat 500 with its own body, the Puch conversely used the body of the Fiat, but sat own, self-constructed engine.
